See You at ALA?

I'll be at the American Library Association annual conference in Chicago next weekend, so if you are there, I hope I see you. I'll be the one running around waving my copies of Sideshow and the new edition of The Silver Kiss with BONUS SHORT STORIES. *grin*

I'll be attending the Margaret Edwards Award lunch on Saturday and the Printz Awards on Monday night. You might also catch me sneaking in to listen to the Newbery/Caldecott award speeches after a riotous dinner with fellow authors, lurking in the exhibits hall, or cadging drinks at various publisher's parties. Oh, yes, I may very well actually attend some real live educational events, too, with my librarian hat on. No, that's an invisible hat--don't go looking for it. LOL I do have some librarian jewelry, though, thanks to my husband. Who knew that there were Library Club charms? I didn't.

I found Silver Kiss in my High School library. I am 26 and I really don't remember what grade I read it in, but it was the only book I read on my own throughout high school. It sparked my love of fiction especially supernatural fiction. I always remembered the book, but couldn't remember the name. I will be buying it to read it again.

What a nice thing for you to post, Melissa. I'm so glad that The Silver Kiss made a difference in your life. You made my day.

Before there was twilight?
I praise you! Both your books Blood and chocolate and The Silver Kiss made such an impact on me!
I did NOT expect the ending in The Silver Kiss, i was not disappointed though, i felt like it was the right thing, the right ending. Which is something i do not feel very often. PLZ keep writing! Yeah Twilight is good, but The Silver Kiss is, in my opinion, true love and sacrifice.

Thanks, Kelly! I'm glad you understood why I had to end The Silver Kiss that way. I'm trying to keep up the writing, but it's always a struggle to find the time and to overcome doubt about my abilities. The kind words of people who post here spur me on.

Woah, woah! You doubt your ability as a writer? May I ask why? My other comment told you that I'm a diehard fan of Blood and Chocolate, but I also read the Silver Kiss. I loved it! I agree with Kelly, who said that it showed true love and sacrifice; both things that are lacking in Twilight. They're good books, but they're like hot chocolate pudding. Not a staple in a literary diet. Your books, on the other hand, leave you feeling wholly satisfied. I can't even remember how many times I've read Blood and Chocolate.

LOL, Jessica--don't you know all writers are insecure?
I'm blushing madly at your wonderful compliment. (Although I'm not sure I spelled compliment right. *grin*)

Actually, yes, I suppose many writers worth their praise do question their abilities. It's a good thing to a degree. Being critical or doubtful makes you a little more realistic. It's bad when it starts to hold you back, though. But I guess I shouldn't be the one to talk, I have yet to finish my story let alone have anything worth publishing! I think if it gives you a sense of satisfaction and pleases you, that's what matters. Well, it was very nice to kind of meet you.

P.S. I hope you don't mind that I borrowed a name or two from B&C. I'd tell you but the admission makes me look like a horrible fangirl! :P I'm not obsessed, really, you just chose amazing names...

Well, we've all got a bit of fangirl in us. *grin* I have my moments, too. It's flattering that you used some of the names that I used. I love choosing the right names. Just keep at your writing and don't give up. You'll finish your story. I'm very slow, but I get there finally. Insecure but stubborn--that's me.
